It is installed at the front end (front oil seal) and rear end (rear oil seal/flywheel side oil seal) of the crankshaft. Its main function is to prevent oil leakage and at the same time block external dust and impurities from entering the engine interior. Types of crankshaft oil seals Classified by location 1. Front-end crankshaft oil seal It is located inside the engine timing cover and is connected to the crankshaft pulley.
